First, identify. Record the nonconformance, the affected material, and supporting evidence. Containment keeps suspect items controlled while the team establishes the facts. Next, review. Quality, engineering and other authorized reviewers examine the requirement, the evidence, and the proposed path. Responsibilities stay distinct. A repair must receive the appropriate technical and design authority before execution. Then, disposition. Whether the approved route is rework, return, scrap, or an authorized repair, the record should connect the instruction, the responsible person, and the resulting evidence. Verification checks the completed work against the approved requirements. Finally, close. Authorized closure follows the required checks, while the decision history remains available for review. Where corrective action is warranted, a linked, separate process follows root cause, implementation and effectiveness. Closing one record does not automatically prove the corrective action effective.
